WILTSHIRE SCHOOLS X-COUNTRY & Y9 SPORT LEADERS…
On Saturday 11th January at Sheldon School Chippenham, the Wiltshire Schools X-Country took place. Ridgeway students who had finished in the top 12 at the Swindon Schools X-Country, earlier in the year at Hreod Parkway School were competing for team ‘Swindon’.
Hariett Jones (Y7 Minor Girls) Charissa Griffiths-Clack (Y8 Junior Girls) Charlotte Fuller (Y8 Junior Girls) Freya McMeeking (Y9 Junior Girls) Ellie Charlesworth (Y9 Junior Girls) Finley Kuklinski (Y9 Junior Boys) Ben Charlesworth (Y11 Inter Boys) Charlie Owen (Y11 Inter Boys)
Harriet Jones (Y7), ran a fantastic Minor Girls race and came 4th, a great performance from Harriet who also runs for Swindon Harriers.
The Junior Girls race was keenly contested by 4 runners who all run in the same training group at Swindon Harriers. At some point during this race each athlete took the lead with the outcome only being confirmed in the last 150m! Charissa Griffiths-Clack, came 2nd, a fantastic achievement a year young in the combined Y8 and 9 race!
Freya McMeeking came 3rd, with Ellie Charlesworth 4th in certainly one of the races of the day. Charlotte Fuller (Y8) ran a very composed race which will give her great confidence looking ahead to next year.
Finley Kuklinski (Y9) came 11th in the Junior Boys race which was very competitive with multiple students who train at Swindon Harriers.
Ben Charlesworth (Y11), came 5th with an incredibly strong finish in the Inter Boys race. Charlie Owen ran a very strong race, both gaining valuable footage for their GCSE PE grades!
The following students will represent Wiltshire at the South West Championships at Newquay on Saturday 1st February. A Great achievement and well done! Harriet Jones, Charissa Griffiths-Clack, Freya McMeeking, Ellie Charlesworth, Ben Charlesworth and Finley Kuklinski (Reserve).
Our Y9 Sports Leaders again supported the event, selling programmes (£400 raised for Wiltshire Schools Athletics), supporting the Results Hub with the results as they came in and working as part of the finish team issuing tokens to every runner who competed.
As usual they were fantastic and their support was greatly appreciated by the host school, Sheldon and Mr Douglas who runs the overall event! Well done and thank you for being brilliant ambassadors for the school.

YEAR 7 – CAREERS EMPLOYER MORNING. EXPLORING ‘THE WORLD OF WORK’…
On Wednesday 22nd January Year 7 were visited by a range of local and national employers as part of our careers programme to explore the World of Work.
Each mentor group visited 6 different employers to learn about their careers, what their daily work experience is and for the students to ask a number of questions to the employers.
The visitors were all very impressed with the students’ engagement to learn about their careers and the questions asked.
We look forward to welcoming more employers into school over the coming months as part of our Careers Engagement programme for a variety of focussed year group events.
