Chemistry Olympiad…

Last February, a dozen Year 12 and a few Year 13 A-level chemists completed the Royal Society of Chemistry's annual Olympiad. This is an exceptionally challenging competition taken by around 15,000 of the UK's top A-level chemistry students.

The test puts the participants through tricky questions from the hardest A-Level topics- and other areas that they have never covered in school- to assess their critical problem- solving skills and their general chemistry knowledge.

Many students put in hours of preparation, but the test was as difficult as promised with a national average score of just 10/82 marks. Fortunately, the Ridgeway chemists performed brilliantly across the board, achieving many Bronze and Silver certificates.

Two Year 12 students went above and beyond, achieving scores in the top 10% of the UK despite entering the competition a year early. Rhys James, one of the two, achieved the top score in the school and received a prestigious gold certificate for his efforts. We all congratulate him for this great achievement, as well as the rest of the participating students for their individually outstanding results.
