YEAR 9 GEOGRAPHY TRIP TO PORTSMOUTH…

On the 24th and 25th November, The Geography Department took 180 students on a trip to Gunwharf Quays Portsmouth to investigate the regeneration of the historic dockyard and consider the impacts on the area using primary data collection techniques, something that will be essential if they go onto study geography at GCSE and/or A level.

Highlights of the trip included going up the Spinnaker Tower to see the wonderful views across the Solent and the transport methods in the area which will support their learning about urban environments and globalisation. They also took a boat trip around Portsmouth Harbour which showed students about the sense of place and the Naval heritage.

Overall, students were a pleasure to have on the trip, they seemed to enjoy linking geographical concepts to real places and having some time in a new environment. It was a brilliant day!

Thank you to all the staff that supported us and allowed students to have this opportunity. The Geography Team!

LRC – Year 7 ICELANDIC BOOK EVENT…

On Friday 18th December, Mr Wakefield and Mrs Day joined forces to hold Ridgeways first ever Icelandic Book event! We had over 20 students attend. They each had a book to open as a present and had the opportunity to read it in a peaceful, yet Christmassy environment! All students had hot chocolate and biscuits during the event!
