Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information

The White Horse Federation and Ridgeway School & Sixth Form College are committed to providing an appropriate and high quality education to all our children. We believe that all children, including those identified as having special educational needs and disability have a common entitlement to a broad and balanced academic and social curriculum, which is accessible to them, and to be fully included in all aspects of school life. We expect all parents and visitors to understand and support our inclusive ethos.

What does Inclusion mean?

Inclusion is a universal human right. The aim of inclusion is to embrace all people irrespective of race, gender, disability, medical or other needs. It is about giving equal access and opportunities and getting rid of discrimination and intolerance. In education 'inclusion' describes the right of parents and children to access mainstream education alongside their peers. Inclusion is about providing equal opportunities for all children.

Special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) can affect a child or young person’s ability to learn. They can affect:

  • Behaviour or ability to socialise
  • Reading and writing
  • Ability to understand things
  • Concentration levels
  • Physical ability

We have a wide range of resources and strategies which allow students with difficulties to access the curriculum as fully as possible, and achieve their full potential. We strive to make the school experience happy, fulfilling, and rewarding for all students

If you think your child may have special educational needs, please contact our SENDCO, Becky Kneeshaw, via email at kneeshawr@ridgewayschool.com. You can also review our SEN information report and policy by clicking the button below.
